The Start of Palomino RVs
Vern Landey was a tent distributor who decided in 1968 that we wanted to build his own campers. He wanted to focus on creating models that were lightweight in design and could make the task of towing and transporting them easier. He also stressed on innovative floor plans that would make better use of all the space available so owners could have a more relaxing and enjoyable time inside the RV. Despite these obvious perks, he also made the decision to keep the price of these campers on the lower side!
Palomino trailers began production in Savage, Minnesota and soon enough these vehicles had become so popular that the customer demand greatly outpaced the production speed at that initial facility. So in 1972, the company shifted to a larger facility in Colon, Michigan. Despite a fire destroying the main production building and offices in 1992, Palomino campers continued to sell at high rates.
Company Changes
In 1998, to keep up with the constantly growing customer demand for Palomino RVs, the company opened a 75,000 square foot production facility. This move helped them to meet the needs of their increasing customer base. They also began producing a new ultra-lightweight travel trailer line, furthering Vern Landey's original vision to make lightweight models.
In 2002, Palomino RVs parent company, Vanguard, was purchased by Forest River. This immediately made Palomino part of one of the largest RV manufacturers in North America! This move also led to a drastic increase in sales and production due to their association with Forest River but they did continue to operate independently from the new parent company.
This move to allow Palomino RVs to function more independently was a good business decision because the company could continue to maintain their small business values, such as providing stellar customer service and a focus on innovating products.
